Thieves are supposedly abusing auction site eBay to sell stolen vehicles under the identity of a legitimate automobile, the BBC has felt .

Con masters- dubbed" scum of the earth" by one victim- have scammed eBay purchasers out of thousands of pounds .
At least three vehicles in Greater Manchester were involved in the new con.
One victim, a retired police officer, was conned out of PS17, 000 to purchase a Mercedes from a marketer in Rochdale .

Former copper Graham Murray reported the accident to the police, but adds no action has been made. The crimes have still not been caught .

The scam is known as car cloning, which is a common approach of vehicle stealing.
The stolen vehicle is given the name of a similar lawful car, including licence platefuls, chassis counts and accompanying documentation.

Two motorists were scammed out of over PS17, 000 each
Prospective purchasers can run a background check on the car and the details will appear to be correct.
An eBay spokesman confirmed to the BBC that the accounts in question had been closed down and supplemented:" Cash on collection is very unusual and we were able to expect buyers to always compensate via the stage when purchasing ."
A Greater Manchester Police representative announced:" When "weve received" each of these reports of any incident, we assess the immediate menace, ill and probability to the public and allocate patrolmen and resources accordingly .
" We do this with full consideration of all the vying involves that we may be facing at that particular duration and a decision is then impelled on how to respond .

Another victim was a man from Forfar in Tayside who was scammed out of PS18, 300 when buying a exploited BMW on the website.
