At least three vehicles in Greater Manchester were involved in the new con.
One victim, a retired police officer, was conned out of PS17, 000 to purchase a Mercedes from a dealer in Rochdale .

An eBay spokesman confirmed to the BBC that the accounts in question had been closed down and added:" Cash on collection is very unusual and we were able to request customers to always compensate via the scaffold when purchasing ."
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman answered:" When we receive a report of any incident, we assess the immediate threat, evil and risk to the public and allocate policemen and resources accordingly .
