Thieves are allegedly expending auction locate eBay to sell plagiarized vehicles under the name of a legitimate vehicle, the BBC has located .

Con artists- dubbed" scum of the earth" by one casualty- have scammed eBay buyers out of thousands of pounds .
At least three vehicles in Greater Manchester were involved in the new con.
One victim, a retired police officer, was conned out of PS17, 000 to purchase a Mercedes from a marketer in Rochdale .

Former copper Graham Murray reported the incident to the police, but alleges no action has been taken. The offenders have still not been caught .
Speaking to the BBC, Mr Murray told:" The police have known about this gang since January .
" As a former police officer I'm absolutely outraged. How can you have any trust in the police ?"

That meant that when he found out the vehicle was plagiarized- there was little chance he could get his fund back.

The scam is known as car cloning, which is a common programme of vehicle stealing.
The stolen vehicle is given the name of a same lawful automobile, including licence plates, framework amounts and accompanying documentation.

Two motorists were scammed out of over PS17, 000 each
Prospective customers can run a background check on the car and the details will appear to be correct.
An eBay spokesman confirmed to the BBC that the accounts in question had been closed down and contributed:" Cash on accumulation is very unusual and we would question purchasers to always pay via the pulpit when purchasing ."
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman added:" When "weve received" a report of any occurrence, we assess the immediate menace, impairment and threat to the public and allocate police and resources accordingly .
" We do this with full consideration of all the rivalling expects that we may be facing at that special hour and a decision is then stirred on how to respond .

Another victim was a man from Forfar in Tayside who was scammed out of PS18, 300 when buying a used BMW on the website.
Mr Alexander said he was " gutted" and labelled the con artists as" scum of the earth ."
