CON ARTISTS are exploiting eBay to sell cloned cars and con customers out of thousands of pounds, a BBC investigation has ascertained .

Thieves are allegedly squandering auctioneer site eBay to sell embezzled vehicles for the purposes of the name of a legitimate automobile, the BBC has seen .

Con masters- dubbed" scum of the earth" by one casualty- have scammed eBay customers out of thousands of pounds .
At least three vehicles in Greater Manchester were involved in the new con.
One victim, a retired police officer, was conned out of PS17, 000 buying a Mercedes from a seller in Rochdale .

That follows when he found out the vehicle was embezzled- there was little chance he could get his coin back.

The scam is known as car cloning, which is a common method of vehicle theft.
The embezzled vehicle is given the name of a similar legitimate vehicle, including licence illustrations, chassis counts and accompanying documentation.

Two motorists were scammed out of over PS17, 000 each
Prospective customers can run a background check on the car and the details will appear to be correct.
An eBay spokesman confirmed to the BBC that the accounts in question had been closed down and included:" Cash on collecting is very unusual and we would expect customers to always compensate via the programme when purchasing ."
A Greater Manchester Police representative suggested:" When "weve received" each of these reports of any happen, we assess the immediate threat, impairment and danger to the public and allocate detectives and resources accordingly .
" We do this with full consideration of all the participating requirements that we may be facing at that special hour and a decision is then built on how to respond .

Another victim was a man from Forfar in Tayside who was scammed out of PS18, 300 when buying a abused BMW on the website.
