Thieves are reportedly abusing auction site eBay to sell plagiarized vehicles for the purposes of the identity of a legitimate car, the BBC has observed .

Con craftsmen- dubbed" scum of the earth" by one casualty- have scammed eBay buyers out of thousands of pounds .
At least three vehicles in Greater Manchester were involved in the brand-new con.
One victim, a retired police officer, was conned out of PS17, 000 buying a Mercedes from a marketer in Rochdale .

Former copper Graham Murray reported the accident to the police, but alleges no action has been made. The convicts have still not been caught .
Speaking to the BBC, Mr Murray remarked:" The police have known about this syndicate since January .

That meant that when he found out private vehicles was embezzled- there was little chance he could get his money back.

The scam is known as car cloning, which is a common procedure of vehicle crime.
The embezzled vehicle is given the name of a similar lawful car, including licence slabs, framework multitudes and accompanying documentation.

Two motorists were scammed out of over PS17, 000 each
Prospective customers can run a background check on the car and the details will appear to be correct.
An eBay spokesman confirmed to the BBC that the accounts in question had been closed down and included:" Cash on collect is very unusual and we would query customers to always pay via the programme when purchasing ."
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson answered:" When "weve received" a report of any happen, we assess the immediate threat, ill and probability to the public and allocate officers and resources accordingly .
" We do this with full consideration of all the rivalling requires that we may be facing at that special season and a decision is then formed on how to respond .

Another victim was a man from Forfar in Tayside who was scammed out of PS18, 300 when buying a squandered BMW on the site.
