Thieves are supposedly applying auction website eBay to sell plagiarized vehicles under the identity of a lawful auto, the BBC has found .

Con craftsmen- dubbed" scum of the earth" by one prey- have scammed eBay purchasers out of thousands of pounds .
At least three vehicles in Greater Manchester were involved in the new con.
One victim, a retired police officer, was conned out of PS17, 000 to purchase a Mercedes from a dealer in Rochdale .

An eBay spokesman confirmed to the BBC that the accounts in question had been closed down and contributed:" Cash on collecting is very unusual and we were able to expect purchasers to always offer via the stage when purchasing ."
A Greater Manchester Police representative answered:" When "weve received" a report of any occurrence, we assess the immediate menace, harm and hazard to the public and allocate policemen and resources accordingly .
" We do this with full consideration of all the participating requisitions that we may be facing at that special occasion and a decision is then fixed on how to respond .
