Thieves are reportedly using auction area eBay to sell plagiarized vehicles under the name of a lawful automobile, the BBC has detected .

Con masters- dubbed" scum of the earth" by one prey- have scammed eBay buyers out of thousands of pounds .
At least three vehicles in Greater Manchester were involved in the new con.
One victim, a retired police officer, was conned out of PS17, 000 buying a Mercedes from a vendor in Rochdale .

Former copper Graham Murray reported the accident to the police, but tells no measures have been made. The culprits have still not been caught .

The scam is known as car cloning, which is a common procedure of vehicle crime.
The stolen vehicle is given the name of a similar legitimate automobile, including licence platefuls, framework digits and accompanying documentation.

Prospective purchasers can run a background check on the car and the details will appear to be correct.
An eBay spokesman confirmed to the BBC that the accounts in question had been closed down and supplemented:" Cash on collect is very unusual and we would request purchasers to always pay via the stage when purchasing ."
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said:" When we receive each of these reports of any occurrence, we assess the immediate threat, suffering and hazard to the public and allocate police and natural resources accordingly .
" We do this with full consideration of all the participating requests that we may be facing at that special age and a decision is then cleared on how to respond .

Another victim was a man from Forfar in Tayside who was scammed out of PS18, 300 when buying a worked BMW on the site.
