Thieves are reportedly abusing auction website eBay to sell embezzled vehicles under the name of a lawful automobile, the BBC has felt .

Con craftsmen- dubbed" scum of the earth" by one casualty- have scammed eBay customers out of thousands of pounds .
At least three vehicles in Greater Manchester were involved in the brand-new con.
One victim, a retired police officer, was conned out of PS17, 000 to purchase a Mercedes from a marketer in Rochdale .

Former copper Graham Murray reported the accident to the police, but remarks no measures have been made. The crimes have still not been caught .

The scam is known as car cloning, which is a common procedure of vehicle fraud.
The embezzled vehicle is given the name of a similar legitimate gondola, including licence layers, framework lists and accompanying documentation.

Two motorists were scammed out of over PS17, 000 each
Prospective purchasers can run a background check on the car and the details will appear to be correct.
An eBay spokesman confirmed to the BBC that the accounts in question had been closed down and added:" Cash on collect is very unusual and we would expect purchasers to always pay via the stage when purchasing ."
A Greater Manchester Police representative replied:" When "weve received" each of these reports of any occurrence, we assess the immediate menace, damage and jeopardy to the public and allocate patrolmen and natural resources accordingly .
" We do this with full consideration of all the competing requirements that we may be facing at that particular duration and a decision is then obliged on how to respond .

Another victim was a man from Forfar in Tayside who was scammed out of PS18, 300 when buying a used BMW on the locate.
