Thieves are reportedly applying auctioneer site eBay to sell plagiarized vehicles under the name of a legitimate car, the BBC has found .

Con craftsmen- dubbed" scum of the earth" by one prey- have scammed eBay customers out of thousands of pounds .
At least three vehicles in Greater Manchester were involved in the brand-new con.
One victim, a retired police officer, was conned out of PS17, 000 buying a Mercedes from a seller in Rochdale .

Former copper Graham Murray reported the accident to the police, but does no measures have been made. The delinquents have still not been caught .
Speaking to the BBC, Mr Murray suggested:" The police have known about this gang since January .

That follows when he found out the vehicle was embezzled- there was little chance he could get his coin back.

The scam is known as car cloning, which is a common approach of vehicle fraud.
The embezzled vehicle is given the name of a similar legitimate automobile, including licence layers, chassis quantities and accompanying documentation.

Two motorists were scammed out of over PS17, 000 each
Prospective buyers can run a background check on the car and the details will appear to be correct.
An eBay spokesman confirmed to the BBC that the accounts in question had been closed down and contributed:" Cash on collection is very unusual and we would ask customers to always compensate via the pulpit when purchasing ."
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson spoke:" When "weve received" each of these reports of any incident, we assess the immediate menace, ill and danger to the public and allocate officers and resources accordingly .
" We do this with full consideration of all the contesting asks that we may be facing at that particular season and a decision is then established on how to respond .

Another victim was a man from Forfar in Tayside who was scammed out of PS18, 300 when buying a expended BMW on the area.
