Thieves are allegedly expending auctioneer site eBay to sell embezzled vehicles under the name of a legitimate automobile, the BBC has attained .

Con craftsmen- dubbed" scum of the earth" by one martyr- have scammed eBay purchasers out of thousands of pounds .
At least three vehicles in Greater Manchester were involved in the new con.
One victim, a retired police officer, was conned out of PS17, 000 to purchase a Mercedes from a seller in Rochdale .

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said:" When we receive a report of any happen, we assess the immediate menace, mischief and probability to the public and allocate detectives and resources accordingly .
