Thieves are allegedly exploiting auction area eBay to sell embezzled vehicles for the purposes of the name of a legitimate automobile, the BBC has encountered .

Con craftsmen- dubbed" scum of the earth" by one casualty- have scammed eBay buyers out of thousands of pounds .
At least three vehicles in Greater Manchester were involved in the brand-new con.
One victim, a retired police officer, was conned out of PS17, 000 buying a Mercedes from a dealer in Rochdale .

Former copper Graham Murray reported the incident to the police, but speaks no action has been made. The crooks have still not get caught .

The scam is known as car cloning, which is a common technique of vehicle theft.
The embezzled vehicle is given the identity of a similar lawful auto, including licence plates, chassis amounts and accompanying documentation.

Prospective purchasers can run a background check on the car and the details will appear to be correct.
An eBay spokesman confirmed to the BBC that the accounts in question had been closed down and added:" Cash on collecting is very unusual and we were able to invite customers to always compensate via the scaffold when purchasing ."
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman replied:" When "weve received" each of these reports of any incident, we assess the immediate threat, mischief and risk to the public and allocate police and resources accordingly .
" We do this with full consideration of all the vying requests that we may be facing at that special season and a decision is then compiled on how to respond .

Another victim was a man from Forfar in Tayside who was scammed out of PS18, 300 when buying a squandered BMW on the site.
