Thieves are allegedly squandering auctioneer site eBay to sell plagiarized vehicles under the identity of a lawful gondola, the BBC has observed .

Con masters- dubbed" scum of the earth" by one victim- have scammed eBay customers out of thousands of pounds .
At least three vehicles in Greater Manchester were involved in the brand-new con.
One victim, a retired police officer, was conned out of PS17, 000 to purchase a Mercedes from a marketer in Rochdale .

Former copper Graham Murray reported the incident to the police, but supposes no measures have been made. The culprits have still not been caught .
Speaking to the BBC, Mr Murray suggested:" The police have known about this syndicate since January .
" As a onetime police officer I'm absolutely disgusted. How can you have any trust in the police ?"

That follows when he found out private vehicles was embezzled- there was little chance he could get his coin back.

The scam is known as car cloning, which is a common method of vehicle stealing.
The embezzled vehicle is given the identity of a similar lawful vehicle, including licence platefuls, chassis numbers and accompanying documentation.

Two motorists were scammed out of over PS17, 000 each
Prospective purchasers can run a background check on the car and the details will appear to be correct.
An eBay spokesman confirmed to the BBC that the accounts in question had been closed down and supplemented:" Cash on accumulation is very unusual and we were able to invite buyers to always offer via the pulpit when purchasing ."
A Greater Manchester Police representative alleged:" When "weve received" a report of any occurrence, we assess the immediate menace, impairment and probability to the public and allocate men and resources accordingly .

Another victim was a man from Forfar in Tayside who was scammed out of PS18, 300 when buying a abused BMW on the area.
