Thieves are allegedly employing auction site eBay to sell plagiarized vehicles under the identity of a legitimate vehicle, the BBC has discovered .

Con craftsmen- dubbed" scum of the earth" by one casualty- have scammed eBay purchasers out of thousands of pounds .
At least three vehicles in Greater Manchester were involved in the new con.
One victim, a retired police officer, was conned out of PS17, 000 to purchase a Mercedes from a seller in Rochdale .

Former copper Graham Murray reported the accident to the police, but adds no measures have been made. The culprits have still not get caught .

The scam is known as car cloning, which is a common technique of vehicle stealing.

An eBay spokesman confirmed to the BBC that the accounts in question had been closed down and added:" Cash on collecting is very unusual and we were able to request customers to always offer via the platform when purchasing ."
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson suggested:" When we receive each of these reports of any happen, we assess the immediate threat, damage and jeopardy to the public and allocate men and resources accordingly .
" We do this with full consideration of all the contesting requires that we may be facing at that particular age and a decision is then realized on how to respond .

Another victim was a man from Forfar in Tayside who was scammed out of PS18, 300 when buying a expended BMW on the site.
