Thieves are supposedly applying auction website eBay to sell stolen vehicles under the identity of a lawful gondola, the BBC has acquired .

Con artists- dubbed" scum of the earth" by one victim- have scammed eBay buyers out of thousands of pounds .
At least three vehicles in Greater Manchester were involved in the new con.
One victim, a retired police officer, was conned out of PS17, 000 to purchase a Mercedes from a seller in Rochdale .

Former copper Graham Murray reported the incident to the police, but responds no measures have been made. The wrongdoers have still not been caught .
Speaking to the BBC, Mr Murray articulated:" The police have known about this gang since January .
" As a onetime police officer I'm absolutely disgusted. How can you have any trust in the police ?"

Prospective buyers can run a background check on the car and the details will appear to be correct.
An eBay spokesman confirmed to the BBC that the accounts in question had been closed down and added:" Cash on collecting is very unusual and we would invite buyers to always offer via the pulpit when purchasing ."
A Greater Manchester Police representative read:" When "weve received" a report of any incident, we assess the immediate threat, evil and threat to the public and allocate policemen and natural resources accordingly .
" We do this with full consideration of all the vying demands that we may be facing at that special meter and a decision is then obliged on how to respond .

Another victim was a man from Forfar in Tayside who was scammed out of PS18, 300 when buying a used BMW on the website.
