Thieves are supposedly squandering auctioneer website eBay to sell stolen vehicles under the identity of a lawful automobile, the BBC has experienced .

Con craftsmen- dubbed" scum of the earth" by one martyr- have scammed eBay purchasers out of thousands of pounds .
At least three vehicles in Greater Manchester were involved in the new con.
One victim, a retired police officer, was conned out of PS17, 000 to purchase a Mercedes from a dealer in Rochdale .

Former copper Graham Murray reported the incident to the police, but enunciates no measures have been taken. The convicts have still not been caught .
Speaking to the BBC, Mr Murray suggested:" The police have known about this gang since January .

The scam is known as car cloning, which is a common approach of vehicle stealing.
The plagiarized vehicle is given the identity of a similar legitimate car, including licence sheets, chassis multitudes and accompanying documentation.

Prospective purchasers can run a background check on the car and the details will appear to be correct.
An eBay spokesman confirmed to the BBC that the accounts in question had been closed down and computed:" Cash on accumulation is very unusual and we would query customers to always compensate via the programme when purchasing ."
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman did:" When we receive a report of any incident, we assess the immediate threat, harm and risk to the public and allocate patrolmen and resources accordingly .
