Thieves are supposedly use auction website eBay to sell stolen vehicles for the purposes of the identity of a lawful automobile, the BBC has noticed .

Con masters- dubbed" scum of the earth" by one prey- have scammed eBay customers out of thousands of pounds .
At least three vehicles in Greater Manchester were involved in the new con.
One victim, a retired police officer, was conned out of PS17, 000 to purchase a Mercedes from a vendor in Rochdale .

Former copper Graham Murray reported the accident to the police, but replies no action has been taken. The culprits have still not been caught .

Prospective purchasers can run a background check on the car and the details will appear to be correct.
An eBay spokesman confirmed to the BBC that the accounts in question had been closed down and contributed:" Cash on collect is very unusual and we were able to query purchasers to always compensate via the programme when purchasing ."
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson read:" When "weve received" each of these reports of any occurrence, we assess the immediate menace, impairment and risk to the public and allocate police and natural resources accordingly .
" We do this with full consideration of all the vying demands that we may be facing at that particular meter and a decision is then realized on how to respond .

Another victim was a man from Forfar in Tayside who was scammed out of PS18, 300 when buying a used BMW on the site.
