Thieves are supposedly use auction website eBay to sell embezzled vehicles under the identity of a lawful vehicle, the BBC has noted .

Con artists- dubbed" scum of the earth" by one scapegoat- have scammed eBay buyers out of thousands of pounds .
At least three vehicles in Greater Manchester were involved in the brand-new con.
One victim, a retired police officer, was conned out of PS17, 000 to purchase a Mercedes from a seller in Rochdale .

Former copper Graham Murray reported the incident to the police, but tells no action has been taken. The crooks have still not get caught .

That follows when he found out private vehicles was stolen- there was little chance he could get his money back.

The scam is known as car cloning, which is a common technique of vehicle theft.
The embezzled vehicle is given the identity of a similar lawful auto, including licence layers, chassis digits and accompanying documentation.

Prospective customers can run a background check on the car and the details will appear to be correct.
An eBay spokesman confirmed to the BBC that the accounts in question had been closed down and included:" Cash on collect is very unusual and we were able to question customers to always compensate via the programme when purchasing ."
A Greater Manchester Police representative told:" When we receive each of these reports of any occurrence, we assess the immediate menace, harm and threat to the public and allocate detectives and natural resources accordingly .
" We do this with full consideration of all the playing requests that we may be facing at that special occasion and a decision is then shaped on how to respond .

Another victim was a man from Forfar in Tayside who was scammed out of PS18, 300 when buying a exerted BMW on the place.
